HORSE AND CARRIAGE 
There is something magical about riding in a horse and wagon! Just sitting there, listening to the clatter of hoofbeats and watching the countryside pass by. That’s when it is easy to feel the wings of history from an era when this was the most common means of transport along the country roads that wind between Gotland's medieval churches and farms. Here in Grötlingbo you cans still experience how it felt to travel behind one or two horses.

Maria Johansson is the first C-level driving trainer on Gotland and offers courses for anyone who would like to improve their skills as a driver as well as wonderful horse and carriage tours for those who just want to enjoy the experience.

Would you like one horsepower – or two?
We offer everything from a one-hour tour to half and whole day experiences including lunch and a coffee break along the way. The tour can be tailored to your wishes. Those who would like to are welcome to give a hand grooming and harnessing the horses before we leave. That also gives us a chance to get acquainted with each other. You can choose to ride behind small, adorable Gotland russ ponies or big, sturdy North Swedish draught horses.

And we are accessible for everyone – naturally we have wagons suitable for wheelchairs.

Price: Per team 900 SEK/hour, or 6 300 SEK for a whole day (8 hours)

OUR TOURS

”Otendag” at Kattlunds
A wonderful three-hour tour by horse and wagon to Kattlunds medieval farm museum. Perfect for anyone who loves horses, but would rather not ride themself…

We meet up at Skradarve farm at 1:30 p.m, meet the team and those who want to can help hitch up the wagon. The wagons are usually pulled by our Russ ponies, Yochi and Artchie, or our North Swedish draughthorses, Bella, Tugg and/or Jessie.

At an old-fashioned pace we make our way past Grötlingbo church, the evangelical chapel which has been closed for years, lovely farms and windmills. We also drive through the forest, along roads where horses have pulled wagons for hundreds of years. We travel along a road that the County Council deems so unique in its beauty that they pay every year to have the brush cleared along its verges so that the old stonewalls remain visible. Our destination is the old medieval farm of Kattlunds, which is a museum nowadays. We unhitch the horses and turn them out to graze in the little paddocks nearby so they can rest. After a short guided tour, afternoon coffee,or "othendag" in the Gotlandic dialect, will be served. In case of inclement weather we can sit indoors in the stone parlour, otherwise the tables will be set out in the herb garden.

Price: 380 SEK/person. Minimum 6 and maximum 15 persons.

There’s nothing more romantic that a wedding couple in a horse and carriage!  If you’re planning to get married and need a ride to and from the church, contact us! We'll hitch up a horse or team to our beautiful Victoria carriage.
